This Keynote lesson is designed to help primary students develop their confidence and precision when using a stylus on iPad. Children begin by selecting a simple image—such as a football logo—copied from the internet. Using the Draw tool in Keynote, they learn to trace over the image with accuracy, adjusting pen type, colour, and stroke to match details. Students are also introduced to important iPad gestures, such as pinching and spreading fingers to zoom in or out, making it easier to work on fine details. Once they’ve completed their traced drawing, they delete the original image to showcase their own digital artwork.
This lesson is ideal for KS2 teachers looking to introduce or enhance digital art and stylus control skills using iPad. It’s also a great fit for cross-curricular projects in computing, art, or design technology, as well as for teachers new to Apple tools who want to build confidence with Keynote’s drawing and layering features. The lesson fosters fine motor control, attention to detail, and gives children a creative, hands-on introduction to using digital tools for expression.
