Frankenstein's Creature-Baby Book

My seniors read most of the novel Frankenstein independently. They complete quizzes and writing prompts, but this year I added an opportunity for creative collaboration. In the novel, Victor abandons his creature on the day that he is "born." Later, the creature meets with Victor to share the details of his life so far. Students were asked to imagine that the creature kept a "Baby Book" of the important events in the first two years of his life.

In small groups or partners students created a "Brag Book"/"Baby Book" for the Creature. They included 7-10 pages of important events and milestones from the creature's "birth" until he meets with Victor. Templates from Keynote and Canva were provided, but students could also select their own template.

Additional requirements for students:

Most Baby Books provide special pages along with milestone events. Make sure to include these three pages in your slides:

-First Friend(s)

-First Foods

-First/Favorite Stories

 Required Components:

1.Include the event/milestone with a brief description (7-10 including the 3 listed above)

2. Include images (Be creative! These should not be images from a film version).

3. Include text evidence to caption the image (add page numbers)

4. Include text/images/symbols to demonstrate the Creature's feelings during these moments (see example in class).

5. Format the slides/template to mimic the style of a Baby Book.

I included three examples from student submissions below. I was proud of their creativity, and I think students enjoyed an alternate way to demonstrate their understanding of key elements in these chapters (vs. standard discussion questions, quizzes, etc).
